How @Endgadget poo-pooed @Nokia's C.E.O too soon. Turns out. He was right. Kinda. #tech

On 04.21.10 Engadget ran this story entitled: "CE-Oh no he didn't" quoting Nokias then CEO Anssi Vanjoki who said camera phones were about to make SLR obsolete. Engadget was quick to poo-poo his vision because, as any photographer knows, the lens is an important part of the photography process and those tiny (and I do mean tiny) camera phone lenses would never be up to par, would they?

What I want from a flat file CMS: (@getgrav might just be the closest).

I was just jotting some ideas about flat file CMS's and what would make me start to use one of them. Falt file CMS's are a way of building websites (and managing their content) without having to write all the code. A normal CMS uses a database to organise stor the content, a flat file CMS simply uses stored text files (which makes it easier because the system doesn't need to look it up). This is what I am looking for from a Flat file CMS:

My Son was so exited to get the Apple TV. "Crossy road multiplayer !!!!". When we got it I asked him if he wanted to do an unboxing, I told him some people will have questiuons about the Apple TV like, weather or not it comes with an HDMI cable (it doesn't) and one way to show people what they get when they purchase it is to make an unboxing video.

So here it is:

Why combustion engine cars are dead #Tesla #tsla #eco

At some point there may have been an argument against electric cars that was valid, but not any more.

Now things are different. Combustion engine cars are nothing but fossels from a bygone era.

Now there is only one type of motor to put in a car and that's an electric one.

An electric motor not only provides a clear view of humanities endgame for transportation without pollution, it also offers the one thing that will convert die hard car enthusiast once reluctant to embrace the technology; Power. Real, go faster power.

We may not have all the infrastructure in place to provide all the electricity we need greenly in every part of the world, but that's solvable and there are many parts of the world where renewable electricity is generated.

If you don't believe the writing is on the wall for combustion engines, just take a look at this youtube video where some lucky Australians get to race a Tesla Model S P90D against a very capable V8 (If you have never been to Austalia, let me tell you, they love V8's, they even have their own racing events specifically for fully tuned  V8's):

Please note: this looks like an older video, the Tesla Model S P90D is now available with the option for even more power and instead of "insane mode" it now can be configured (if you pay extra) with "Ludicrous mode" which brings the 0-100kmh figure to just 2.8 seconds.

Watch as a Tesla eats up a V8 and then is surprised as another, more powerful challenge arrives…

New #webdesign Molinos MODO coffee grinder company.

My latest website build: Coffee Grinders Company MODO

Molinos MODO Screenshot of Banner on web page

We just rolled out our latest website build. I work for a group of coffee companies ins Spain related to the coffee trade. In the group there is a company which makes coffee capsules, another which does coffee beans for the hospitality trade and there are some which make those same products but just in a different price range.

Molinos de cafe electronicos Modo sitiowebWe just rolled out our latest website build. I work for a group of coffee companies ins Spain related to the coffee trade. In the group there is a company which makes coffee capsules, another which does coffee beans for the hospitality trade and there are some which make those same products but just in a different price range.

One of the companies is a factory which makes automatic coffee grinders.

Recently we updated the website and yesterday we went live. I will admit that it has a few kinks which we need to iron out, but it’s a huge improvement from the old.

As a Marketer it was important for me to update the site because it sent too much tim talking about the features of the products and not enough time talking about the benefit.

One of the grinders for example is a very different kind of professional coffee grinder. It has an attached money box and is a completely sealed machine. It grinds coffee according to money deposited in the coin box. It’s not a 1 coin = 1 coffee system, the money deposited pays for the coffee according to it’s cost per kilo. I.e. if you put in 2€ the machine credits 2€ worth of coffee and will dispense the appropriate amount of coffee. Then the company just needs to visit the customer and open the grinder to refill it and empty the cash box. This is great for the customer because they don’t have any bill to pay.

The problem was the old website talked about the coin box but didn’t explain how it benefited the customer. It benefits the coffee supplier because they don’t have to worry about unpaid invoices and customer love it because they never have to worry about paying the bill and when our delivery guys fill the machine, they also maintain it, so it always works well.

Anyway if you are interested in Coffee Grinders you can check out the website:
www.molinosmodo.com

If you have any other questions about coffee products, just leave a comment, as long as I’m working here I can do my best to answer them.

Why electric car naysayers are wrong. #tsla #Tesla #teslamotors #greencars #electriccar

800px Tesla Model S

Imagine I made a “dogp3player” a kind of mp3 player which only dogs could hear and I started selling it for 500$. How long before the price came down? Never. That’s how long. Because there wouldn’t much demand in the product. Without demand, there is nothing to incentivize other companies to also make the product, ergo there would be no competition. Competition drives prices down as companies compete to make sales by improving the value proposition to the customer. Lower prices often fuel additional demand and companies invest to continually make products better and cheaper in order to make more sales. High demand also allows companies to improve fabrication which can not only lead to cheaper production, it provides the financial resources needed to make a product with less materials, less waste and often less toxic materials.

So, if you're in German at Baumarkt for just 19,99€ you can buy a toilet seat adorned with pictures of coffee beans. Now, I like coffee- a lot, but I don't think I would choose to have a toilet seat covered in coffee. It seams Baumarkt disagrees because they have plenty of stock. My son's latest video about learning German, a departure from his video game vids #youtube #youtube @swordsprite

My Son normally likes to make video games videos for youtube like minecraft videos (here) or retro video games like this one about playing pitstop on an atari 2600.

Last weekend he departed from video games and decided to make a video showing basic German words. It's not that easy to understand, but he knows he needs to work on that. He hasn't really found what he wants to do appart from "make youtube videos". That's what he aspires to and I support him 100%.

He appreciates every 'like' he gets and jumps up and down with excitement when people subscribe, he has a good heart and just want's to make youtube videos which help people. Perhaps thats why his latest idea is to teach a bit of German. He is trilingual so if you want to learn a few basic German words please check out his latest video:

15 Flat file CMS systems to get to know for 2015 and beyond #flatfileCMS #Joomla

A flat file CMS is a Content Management System (CMS) that eschews database connection in favor of simple text files which the system uses to dynamically build web page views as they are visited. Its advantage is speed. Because the system doesn't need to "find" the contents of the page from within a database, server response time is faster and page load times quicker. Well that is in theory, just last week I made some speed tests comparing Flat file CMS's with Joomla CMS and found that although the flat file CMS systems in most part outperformed Joomla, properly optimized Joomla sites with a fast template could outperform a flat file CMS making the decision not so cut and dried.

#Google is soon to put #cars without real driver on real roads. #selfdrivingcars

Google is getting ready to put self driving cars on the road.It seams strange because we happily get into cars with human drivers and don't give their ability to drive a second thought but I'm not sure the same will be true when we get into a car that drives itself. I think that might be pretty nerve racking at first. Stupid really, because the multiple sensors and specifically designed software could no doubt be safer than half the crazy people driving on the road.

Ugly car though.

That's why this parkour on the side of a skyscraper is so nerve racking if not for the person filming it, it certainly is for me, the viewer.

Actually I'm not sure about how I feel sharing something like this. I don't want to be contributing to the demand for dangerous videos knowing that demand drives supply and it's only a matter of time until one of these people makes a fatal mistakes. Bleep is a new messaging service with real security and privacy features built in. I have yet to try this out for myself, but I already use Bit Torrent Sync and I love it. I'll definitely be testing it out this week and hopefully have an idea know pretty soon if it has the capacity to be a Whatsapp killer. Leonardo DeCaprio nials the urgency needed in action again #globalwarming

Nothing that damages the environment should be cheap. Oil prices and gasoline price should be way higher, artificially inflated in order to create a financial incentive to research/invent/adopt alternatives.

The same for industry. If it damages this fragile world we live in it should be either prohibited or expensive. Watch how fast we clean things up ouselves when consumers have to PAY for the environmental damage caused by the things they buy.

We need action now and Leonardo DeCaprio's speech at the opening of Climate Summit 2014 sums this up perfectly.

Got a wierd feeling when I saw someone had made "my invention". #inventors and #designers will understand.

OK, so this was wierd…  a few months ago I tweeted about and idea for an invention I came up with quite a long time ago. A set of robots which could manoeuvre under the wheels of a car and lift the car to shunt it to a better parking space.

My idea was that they could be used to correct that problem where one extra wide car or person parking badly causes everyone who parks beside them to park badly and perpetuates until enough spaces are free that things can return to normal.

I mean, how many times have you seen people on the internet complaining about people parking poorly? Theyu are the drivers we love to hate. Often poeple will leave nasty notes or sometimes, or in some extreemes resort to defacing the poorly parket car in question. I always think; "what if it wasn't that cars fault? Maybe it was the car in the park next to them that forced them to park that way and now that other car has left?".

Anyway, it's one of those invention ideas you have by you know you are never going to do anything about it because it's not your best idea, it's not commercially viable ot you don't have the resources to make it happen.

But you want to know whats really weird? When someone else has the exact same idea and produces the product, then you randomly stumble on it one day on the internet.

To be clear, I don't believe someone randomly saw my tweet and then made the product, it would have taken far too long to develop. It's just a bizarre felling to see "your invention" made real by someone else.

This is almost exactly how I imagined a set of robots for moving cars would be:

Mind blowing 3D tech of the day goes to: Carbon 3D Continuous Liquid Interface Production technology (CLIP).

If you are involved in manufaturing this video might just blow your mind. I had never heard of Carobn 3D until I came accross a press realease today about thier new 3D printing technique which grows the 3D objects in a pool of resin reminiscent of how the T1000 grew back up out of droplets int the movie Terminator 2.

The Continuous Liquid Interface Production technology (CLIP) uses light and oxygen to “continuously grow objects from a pool of resin instead of printing them layer-by-layer.”

Well,... take a look for yourself. Keep in mind this is 7 times normal speed, but it still does not fail to impress:

Why #Apple is making a $10,000+ smart watch, the reason nobody seams to be talking about.

Apple is the first company to make $10,000+ dollar version of its smart watch (that I know of) called the Apple Watch "edition". This has generated quite a buzz in the media and also with the apple haters jumping into full swing with memes like “a $10,000 watch? Apple just went full retard, never go full retard.”.

Now, I not big on opinionated posts (my blog is more to help others find solutions to tech problems)… but I have an opinion on this that people don’t seam to be talking about: Apple is making a $10,000 smart watch because they seam to be the only ones smart enough to know; they HAVE TO.

Not the way I'd want to spend my first ride on a #motorbike

Remember your first ride on a motorbike? Did you fall? Did you crash? I hope not. Kids should start out smaller and be well trained before they ride a motorbike and electric training motorbike (one of the ride on toys) without too much power and then slowly move up or something like this is bound happen....

What a wierd and amazing #watersport #Foilboarding

What is this? When did foilboarding happen? How did I not know about this? It looks like fun! If you've never seen foilboarding before, take a look. If I lived near a beach with big waves, foil-boarding might end up my next big obsession.

On God. #StephenFry sums about how I imagine most intelligent #atheists think.

God is an omnipotent spirit who watches over us and will reward a life of servitude with eternal life in heaven. Yea right.

Thank you Stephen Fry for talking some sense on the subject of GOD.

A video every #recycling nay-sayer has to watch #environment

We all have to recycle. We HAVE to. There are too many people in this world to be wastefull. End of story. Seperationg your rubbish into different bins is easy and after time, it becomes automatic.

If you run into any nicomppop with some stupid arguement against recycling show them this video. I've been recycling diligently for years know that placstic could be recyled into plastic the palets and then use for new plastic devices. But I did not know this:

Manulo Sanchez (#BookOfLife) is my new favourite #Matador (#Bullfighter)

Manulo Sanzhez from book of life says killing the bull is wrong

(Monolo Snachez the bullfighter refuses to kill bulls in "The Book Of Life")

Bull fighting is wrong. It's not a matter of culture because the torture and murder of innocent beings is not acceptable in anyway. Not for humans. Not for animals. Heck even the abuse of personal rights cannot ever be defended as a matter of culture, yet people still continue to oppress and disadvantage others using culture as an excuse.

Culture is never an excuse for abuse.

#Tesla leaves Dodge Challenger Hellcat in the dust shows why #electriccars are great

When most people watch this video it's easy to see that the Dodge Challenger Hellcat get is ass kicked by the Tesla becuase it fluffed the start. To me this just shows why Tasla cars (an indeed similarly powered electric vehicles) are faster. It's not that the are that much faster when they go up against high powered combustion engines, it's more the direct drive and electric motor make it much easier to get going fast. With a combustion engine you have to rev the engine high enough to get maximum power but not so high that you spin the wheels and loose traction (and therefore loose speed). This is not actually that easy to do. The Tesla on the other hand, doesn't have that problem and although we all love to think that we are great drivers (actually I'm the best in the world!), having a drag race is not easy and most people would end up doing what the Dodge Challenger Hellcat driver did.

I love those Teslas:

Collaborative Entertainment. Are we at the dawn of a new type of fun? #Microsoft #Hololense

Hololens A new kind of entertainment?Image credit: Wired

Recently (today?) Microsoft unveiled its new sudo holographic technology dubbed HoloLens. I say sudo holographic because it projects an image onto transparent screen which hangs off a headband in front of your eyes. It's probably more augmented reality than holographic. But what do I know? What I really want to say is: it looks like fun.

How to add an animated creep to TDTK (by Song tan) for #Unity3D #Tutorial

Adding an animated creep to TDTK in Unity

A guy by the name of Song Tan (Song's blog) has build really nice Tower Defense building starter kit for unity called TDTK. If you've purchased it then you know it makes creating a tower defence game reasonable easy. I didn't have any problems getting creeps into my game, but I did have problems animating them. So here is a guide to adding animated creeps into TDTK.

How the #lego movie was made (#youtube #video) - #everythingisawesome

Was the lego movie made with stop motion and real blocks? Of course not. Here is a video which shows how they made the lego movie:

I always wanted to do one of two things; Either make CG animated movies or work in the video game industry. I spent my life pushing hard to get a break that would allow me to do just that, but alas I never found my way in despite once having the opportunity to work for Electronic Arts (on contract). I just couldn't turn it into a full time job despite doing an excellent job.

Still, I never begrudge other peoples successes and the combination of simulated stop motion and realistic lego bricks makes the lego movie a masterpiece in my eyes.

If you are interested in how it was made, watch this video. The lego Movie was made by creating realistic bricks (complete with cracks or fingerprints as if they were really used), then building realistic lego worlds that you could actually build yourself (if you had enough lego bricks) and finally animating them in the only way you could off you were actually building them from real bricks; with stop motion (simulated using computer graphics).

By the way if you are interested in computer graphics, making a Lego movie like this is no easy feat. Building objects and rigging characters with movement is actually quite straight forward but making them move in steps which simulate stop motion and using worlds built entirely out of computer generated real bricks. Not so easy. Well done indeed.

How to change the avatar, user icon, gravitar on your Gavick Pro #Joomla template.

This one had me scratching my head, but it shouldn’t have: How do I change the user icon on a Gavick pro template?

How to change the avatar, user icon, gravitar on your Gavick Pro template.

The answer is easy, except you need to know that your Gavick Pro Joomla templates often show TWO different icons in different places which will both appear as a default blue and white sideways "g" until you change them. Depending on how your template is set up you may need to configure them both. Heres how:

You haven't seen #Tetris until you've seen this Grand Master #youtube #wow

One thing that always made me a bad video game critic is that I love video games. All of ém. I find it hard to dislike any. Tetris is one of those games that may fail to impress a modern gamer who is spoilt for amazing graphics as well as challenging gameplay, but Tetris is not just for the retro enthusiast. For me there is no distinction between games of differing complexity. Sure there are simple games but that doesn't mean they're not fun. Like Tetris, although Tetris has an easy to grasp concept, it's far from an easy game. If anyone ever suggests Tetris is simplistic or not challenging enough, let them have a look at this must see master playing Tetris with invisible blocks. Yep that's right; Invisible.

#Siri has a funny new voice #iPhone

So last week I was talking to Siri and I notice she sounded different. So I told her:

iPhone screenshot: Iphone siri you sound different

Knowing that Siri doesn't always give you a straight answer, I changed tact:

Iphone screenshot Iphone siri your voice has changed

The new voice for Siri on the iPhone is far more life-like thats for sure but he/she sounds more generic. I think the older voice had more character.

Ok. Siri now that you have a new voice, sing me a song:
