Beautiful video perfect for showing your kids at #Christmas. Hand making Candy Canes. #yum

I love Christmas Candy Canes. I don’t eat them so much anymore, but they once were so much a part of my Christmas that it still wouldn’t feel like Christmas with out at least a few. What would I love more than a candy cane right now? A chance to try and make one for myself after watching this video!

A name to learn Peter Vácz (@vaczpeter) start by checking out this great #animation #shortfilm

I have always loved animation. 2D or 3D, it doesn't matter. In my early twenties I left my hometown in search of a carreer path whcih would allow me to be a computer animator, but alas, I had bills to pay and in the end I took a different path. If I had been an animator, I'd love to think I was creative enough to make something like the stunning "Rabbit and Deer" which is fantastic on so many levels. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

#timelapse of the stripping down of a Triumph Herald engine #motor #triumphherald #oldskool

Great video! A time lapse of the stripping down of a Triumph Herald engine. At least I'm pretty sure it must be a Triumph Herald, I mean, I had at one time about four of them. I recognise the engine (which I also stripped and rebuilt just not with out help and not to this detail). The other tell-tail detail that it must be a Triumph Herald is that the bonnet which opens forward (and can be easily removed).

Anyway this brought back fond memories. I even painted my Herald engine in white and that exact same shade of blue. It was like I was looking back in time..

I also loved that fact that on the Triumph Herald you could easily remove the hard top with just a few bolts. many is the time we drove hurriedly home when it started to rain because I have removed the roof earlier that morning. Fun times.

How to delete email addresses that appear when you start typing in the Apple Mial App

So you’ve just realized that every time you try to send someone an email, the mail app present you with an old address instead of their new one. It autocompletes the mail recipient with an email that may not even work anymore even though you know the new email. Or it may just be that you have spelled an email incorrectly in Apple Mail App and although it bounced back, it also keeps appearing in the mail apps autocomplete function. Whatever the reason, you need to delete an email that’s old or incorrect to stop it from autofilling.

Ok. So here is my latest web design (here):

This site took quite a while because of constant internal (client) changes. It showcases all my own work (apart form the CMS and template on which it was built). The 3D capsules and art (most photos are stock, but some are mine) as well as the SEO were all done by yours truly. I'm quietly happy with the result.

I can only Rasterise Illustrator objects as CMYK how do I rasterize them as RGB?

CMYK are the primary colours of pigment (well, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow are - the black is a key colour, hence the “K”). But you may find yourself editing some artwork in Illustrator and you need to rasterize some vectors and/or images and the only option Illustrator gives to you is CMYK. This is fine if you are going to print the artwork because you will need the image in the primary colours of pigment in order to print them, but if you only want to view the artwork on screen or make a PDF for on screen viewing or if you are creating a web image, then you will want to rasterize as RGB.

How DO you rasterise images or objects in Illustrator as RGB if that is not an option?

Check out this program which will allow you to replace a 2D objects in a photo with a 3D ones. It uses the information within the photo to create the lighting and material maps with some user assistance of course. Once the object is 3D, full animation and photo manipulation on a new level is possible.

This is a quick overview of Toxic backlinks:

In general, a Toxic back link is any link that intends to manipulate the PageRank, or the search engine results.

It can be a link to your site or an outgoing link from your site, it will be considered a toxic if Google decides it wasn’t natural and is seen as an artificial attempt to boost rankings. Toxic links are also called “unnatural links” and can be considered a violation of the Google Guidelines.

How Siri is helping me to quit snacking #iphone

I'm trying to cut down the food that I eat. I believe we (people in general) eat too much food. Studies of lab rats have shown that they live longer if they eat less. The biggest culprit is not actually food of any nutritional value, it's snacks that I eat just after a meal. So I came up with a way to try and stop snacking after meals, I enlisted the help of Siri on my iPhone. Now after I finish my meal and my body is still telling me I'm hungry, instead of reaching for something to eat, I hold down the button on my iPhone and ask Siri to set my timer for 10 minutes. When I say set the time "for ten minues" and Siri often sets it to fourteen minutes, no matter. A few minutes later when the timer goes off I allow myself to eat any snack I'm still hungry for... Funny thing is, ten+ minutes later I'm no longer hungry!

So far, it's working like a charm.

This morning, just making a coffee on coffee my break and you can see how the plastic stirring stick sits up in the coffee because it's so thick and creamy. It's a whole different experience from filtered coffee I've been brought up with. Of course you can also add milk or frothed milk to make a cappuccino...

Google wins, a tragedy for #competition and the consumer

A sad day for competition today. I just received an email from CONTAXE a German contextual web advertising company which competes against Google's dominant advertising service. I myself have used this service and am currently using Google. I think the service was great and admit to only be using Google because I real have no other choice. There were simply are not enough advertisers CONTAXES to make the contextual system work well and ads serve were not relevant enough to be successful. Of course without publisher support like mine it must have been hard to attract advertisers a catch 22 situation for which advertisers and consumer will ultimately pay.

I encourage anyone reading this to talk about other alternative in the comments so that we can help keep competition alive.

Why does it take so long for attitudes towards Cannabis to change?

Cannabis is a plant that can be used to get high. Sure, there's that, but it can do much more as you will see in the video below. Most adults (I know) have at tried it and therefore are aware that it's no big deal. I am never afraid to admit to the fact that I have smoked Marijuana in the past. I was young, it was fun. I grew out of it. Some of my friends also grew out of it and some still partake. So what? I have seen many more harmful effects from abuse of alcohol than from "weed". I, as a non smoker don't wish to impose my will on these who enjoy it and I see more danger to my children by keeping it underground.

Xerox invented some of the most significant innovations in commuter history like the mouse and the GUI. Apple Computer (as it used to be called) then fine tuned these technologies with a flair for creating user friendly productivity orientated computers and came up with something truly revolutionary; the Mac. Released in 1984 the Apple Mac really did establish a new path for computers which every piece of technology since has followed.

Here are a couple of great videos about the early days of the Mac that graphic designers around at the time will particularly enjoy.

Just #stupid. #SoloClimbing that high with no ropes #deathwish @AlexHonnold

I'm not the only one to see this and be a little angry. The climber in this video (Alex Honnold) will eventually die an unnatural death if he carries on climbing the way he does. There will come a day when a gust of wind, the naturaly aging of his body or some other element will cause him to slip and fall to his death. This video should have been more responsible. It should have warnings, a simple "do not try this at home" would be a start. Instead it paints Alex Honnold as someone to be revered for his skill. People seeing this video might be inpsired to emulate him and not everyone has his skill. But more fundimentally, why is this considered an accomplishment? Climbing with ropes (free climbing, which I used to do) is the same exact thing only safer. We wouldn't exalt a race car driver who doesn't use seat belts and a helmet in the same way, would we? Climbing like this is just wrong. It helps that Alex Honnold doesn't seam to have too many people in his life or I would go as far as to call him and asshole (yea, I said it) for what he would eventually put them through. I feel really sorry for his mother. There is no doubt Alex Honnold has amazing climbing ability, that is without question, and it will be a great sporting loss when he dies in a fall the way many others already have. Solo climbing is not smart. It is not an schievement. It's a failure in every sense I can imagine.

Holy shizzle. #Webdesign take note; A most inspiring web dev program indeed! Good job @macawco

This has to be the best web development tool ever. I must admit, I don't build websites this way, instead of html and CSS I use a CMS which takes care all of that for me. One of the reasons I do it that way is that there is no way to "deisgn" a web site like using illustrator or coreldraw. Or should I say there WAS no way previously. Many have tried to make a "wysiwyg" HTML/CSS editor but up until now they ALL had the wrong goals. They all tried to force the user to work within the confines HTML/CSS. Macaw seems to be built to allow the web designer to construct websites in the way they would with a graphic design program. Then Macaw builds the best code it can from that. Brilliant, well done!

As a father I love videos like this: Boy freezing at a bustop (youtube)

God versus Science

Not being able to disprove the existence of something is not proof that it exists. It is only proof that it cannot be confirmed or denied.

It is ok to have faith that something not yet proved to exist. It’s ones prerogative to feel an intuitive connection. Scientist should appreciate this because intuition leads to the creating of hypothesis which are the starting blocks of proven science.

It is also reasonable to accept measured and observed proof to gain a definitive understanding of our universe.

Ergo, Arguing against undisproved faith is as asinine as arguing against absolute scientific proof.

What does this mean?

1) God may/may not exist.

2) Dinosaurs did exist and we live on a planet floating in Space.

Deal with it.

What are eye floaters? Am I going blind?

What are eye floaters? I thought I was going blind when I first discovered eye floaters and watched them move around my eyeball. I completely expected that in under 10 years I would loose my vision completely, boy was I happy to find out they are not only common but completely natural and benign. It turns out an eye floater is simply the collagen in your eye's clumping together and creating a less translucent area which impedes the flow of light to your retina. At least that is MY simplified explanation of eye floaters, for more understanding, checkout this video:
